Sambalpur Monsoon Staycation Ride
Starting from Sandy’s Tower
Our Day 1 journey began at Sandy’s Tower, Bhubaneswar, where riders gradually arrived, motorcycles lined up and the excitement of the trip started building.
With everyone geared up, the support Safari in position and the motorcycles ready, we began our journey towards The Welcome Resort, Sambalpur, with a few stops planned along the way.
Riding Through the Monsoon
The weather kept changing throughout the journey. Some stretches were relatively clear, while others brought rain, mist and wet roads.
That unpredictability is one of the most interesting parts of a monsoon ride. One moment we were riding through dry roads, and a few kilometres later we were surrounded by rain and green hills disappearing into the clouds.
The changing weather transformed what could have been a regular highway journey into something much more memorable.
Devjharan Waterfall
Our first major stop was Devjharan Waterfall, and the monsoon made the surroundings especially beautiful.
After spending several hours on the road, everyone welcomed the break. We explored the area, took photographs and videos, and simply enjoyed being together without worrying about the next kilometre.
Some of the best moments from group trips are often the ones that are never planned, and Devjharan gave us exactly that.
The Stone-Skipping Challenge
Near the water, a few stones quickly turned into an unofficial stone-skipping competition. The challenge was simple: throw a stone and see how many times it could bounce across the surface.
Soon everyone had a technique, an opinion and a score to defend. There was no official winner, but there were plenty of laughs, which probably made the competition much better anyway.
It was a completely unplanned moment, but it became one of the memories everyone would talk about later.
Capturing the Memories
Throughout the stop, cameras were never too far away. We photographed the waterfall, the surroundings and, most importantly, the people who were sharing the experience.
Years later, we may not remember every stretch of road from the journey, but these photographs will remind us of the conversations, laughter, rain and small moments that made the day special.
Back on the Road
After spending enough time at Devjharan, we geared up again and continued towards Sambalpur.
The rain continued to appear and disappear along the route, but by then it had simply become part of the experience. With the group moving together and the Safari travelling alongside us, we eventually reached our stay and brought the riding part of Day 1 to an end.
From Ride to Staycation
Reaching Sambalpur changed the mood of the trip completely. The motorcycles were parked, the riding gear came off and everyone finally had time to relax.
The evening quickly filled with conversations about the day’s ride, the rain, Devjharan and, of course, differing opinions about who had actually won the stone-skipping challenge.
Later, everyone gathered again, this time without helmets, motorcycles or riding gear. It was a simple reminder that while motorcycles may bring people together, it is the friendships and shared experiences that turn a group into a community.
More Than the Kilometres
The escape was not memorable because of one particular destination. It was the combination of an early morning start, fifteen motorcycles riding together, unpredictable monsoon weather, Devjharan Waterfall, spontaneous laughter and finally reaching Sambalpur as one group.
A good community ride is rarely remembered only by the number of kilometres travelled. It is remembered through the moments created along the way.
